Central Texas Medical Center’s 23rd annual HealthCheck, a community screening and health fair, served a near record crowd on Thursday. The facility hosted 1,282 of the 1,428 individuals who registered for the event.
“HealthCheck meets a significant need every year,” said Gary Jepson, CTMC President and CEO. “Offering the community a significant discount on health screening and care is just one of the ways we seek to extend the healing ministry of Christ.”
Participants paid only $30 for $400 worth of blood analysis, including glucose, total cholesterol, HDL/LDL, white blood cell count, triglycerides and hemoglobin. After the blood screening, individuals were able to meet with a nurse or physician to discuss their results. Participants also had the opportunity to register for a prostate specific antigen blood test, a thyroid stimulant hormone blood test, a carotid artery screening, and tetanus shots.
The event also featured on-line registration, more on-site business and community draws and off-site parking with shuttle service to help prevent inconvenience to patients and physicians practicing in CTMC’s Professional Office Building.
“I am grateful that our employees, as well as the community, have an opportunity to take advantage of such important and affordable health care each year,” said Melanie Teague, Human Resources Director at McCoy’s Building Supply. “We had nothing but good feedback from our employees and thank CTMC for doing this for us.”
Due to the overwhelming response, CTMC officials are gathering input from participants and providers and will meet over the coming months to regroup and redesign the event for its 2010 incarnation.
