Embassy and Local Retailers give to Lymphedema Program

6/5/2009

Central Texas Medical Center recently received 50 percent of the proceeds raised during the Administrative Professional’s Day Luncheon at Embassy Suites.  The $1,295 donation will benefit the hospital’s new Lymphedema Therapy program.

“We are so fortunate to have a hospital in our community that continues to expand services – especially those for women,” said Michelle Carswell, General Manager, Tanger Outlet, who helped spearhead the event. “It was a great way for Tanger, Prime and Two P’s to give a little something back to the community while pampering some of the women who support each of us,” she added.

The luncheon provided guests with an opportunity to honor their Administrative Professionals with massage therapy, desk yoga techniques, spa giveaways, summer getaways and a variety of fashions from a number of retailers from Tanger and Prime as well as Two P’s Boutique.   Those in attendance also got to enjoy a special menu prepared by Embassy Suites’ Executive Chef James Fier.

Prizes were given away throughout the luncheon.  The event was sponsored by Michelle Carswell of Tanger Outlets, Prime Outlets, Lowe’s, Two P’s and Calli’s, and Spa Botanica.

CTMC’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute provides Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) for the treatment of lymphedema and related conditions. Certified lymphedema therapists will work with the patient’s primary care physician to develop a treatment program specifically designed for each individual. Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part, most often the arms or legs. Common causes of lymphedema are cancer and cancer related treatments, with breast cancer being the #1 cause in the United States.
