Weight Watchers Meets at CTMC

1/29/2010

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) will kick-off the second series of the Weight Watcher program at an Open House event on Tuesday, February 2, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in CTMC community Classroom.

The 17-week program will begin on February 9th.  The weekly meetings will be held each Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the new Community Classroom. In addition, a second session on Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. may be started if a minimum of 20 participant register for this lunch hour session.

“I have lost 36 pounds in the last 12 weeks. I’ve learned a lot about myself and why I have the eating habits I have, and I’ve learned new ways to manage my food ‘demons’,” said Carol Trafford, CTMC Home Health Director.  “The most important thing for me is the peer support.  I love seeing my Weight Watchers partners in the hallway where we share recipes and comment on how our clothes are getting baggy. I look forward to losing the next 36 pounds and gaining more new friends.”

Weight Watchers meetings begin with participants receiving a private weigh-in that helps them stay on track with their weight-loss goal.  Each week Leaders conduct discussion about a specific topic, ranging from stress-eating, to family meal ideas and other tips.  Members are encouraged to share strategies that have worked for them so that others may use or adapt the strategies to fit their personal needs and goals.

“We are delighted to offer such a great program to our employees and the community,” said Barry Tyler, CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living Manager.  “Weight Watchers provides people a chance to stay healthy with the help of a supportive and a caring environment.”
