CTMC Celebrating Heart Health Month with Free Talk and More

2/4/2010

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is celebrating National Heart Health month by supporting several initiatives to bring awareness to Hays County and is providing a free heart attack prevention seminar.

On February 17, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., CTMC will host “Act in Time”, a free seminar on the risk factors for a heart attack and how to reduce them. The program, developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, prepares participants to recognize the early warning signs of a heart attack and to take quick action in response to heart attack symptoms. In addition, participants learn ways to reduce future heart complications. To register for the seminar, please call CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living at 512.753.3622, or go to ctmc.org and click on “education & events”

On March 20, the American Heart Association (AHA) will host the annual San Marcos Heart Walk at the Texas State University ‘s football stadium. CTMC hosted the Heart Walk kick-off event in its new community classroom on February 3rd. The event’s 40 team captains met to kick-off fundraising efforts and hear an update on heart care from Dr. Faisal Syed, M.D., Cardiologist and member of CTMC’s Medical Staff.

“The truth is that most heart disease is preventable, yet it is still the number one killer of men and women in the world, “ said Syed. “Through support of the Heart Walk, we are helping the AHA continue to spread the word on how to prevent heart disease from the start.”
