EXPANDING, RELOCATING HEALTHCHECK EVENT TO EMBASSY SUITES

2/24/2010

Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is expanding the services offered at its 24th

Annual HealthCheck Community Health Fair & Screening event. This year, the community-wide health screening, which is moving to the City of San Marcos Conference Center at Embassy Suites - San Marcos , will be held on Thurs., April 22 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The new venue allows HealthCheck, which is the largest health screening event in Hays County, to include more vendor booths along with “Health Talks” presented by physicians and other clinical professionals throughout the day.

“We are excited to continue to expand this important mission-outreach community health event,” said Barry Tyler, CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living Manager. “Moving the event to a larger space is going to allow more people to participate and provide more helpful health information to participants the day of the event.”

CTMC’s HealthCheck discounts the cost of more than $400 worth of blood analysis to a minimal $35 for all participants. The basic blood analysis includes complete metabolic panel (screening for glucose and renal and liver disorders); lipid panel (cholesterol with HDL/LDL breakdown, triglycerides); and complete blood cell count (white, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets).

Additional important screenings are being offered for the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and a Carotid Artery Screening for an additional $15 per test.

Health Talks featuring local physicians already confirmed include: Arthritis 101, Diabetes 101, Heart Health, Family Health Roundtable, Act in Time: Heart Attack Warnings, Stand Strong: Fall Prevention and LoneStart: Wellness Initiative.

Pre-registration and a series of pre-event draws are slated to begin the week of Feb. 22. For more information or to register for the event, on this event please visit www.ctmc.org , call CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living at 512.753.3818, or visit the new Health Living Community Resource Center in the main lobby of CTMC.
