SAN MARCOS, TX – In a matter of days, the view on Wonder World Drive will change as the Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) sign – a San Marcos landmark for more than a quarter of a century - comes down. Twenty-seven years ago this September, Hays Memorial Hospital built a new facility and then one year later, the hospital joined the Adventist Health System. A few years later, the name became Central Texas Medical Center.
That was the first of many exciting changes at CTMC’s Wonder World Drive campus and now, the hospital is undergoing a renovation that will give it a brand new look. Completion of a resurfacing and facelift to the hospital’s original 4-story structure is wrapping this month and work on a new roof for the 27-year old structure will begin immediately after the resurfacing project is completed. The exterior facelift renovation to the original 1983 structure compliments the recent 64,000 square foot expansion of the new Women’s Center.
A lighted monument-style sign, slated to sit on Wonder World Drive near the entrance to the hospital, is in the final planning stages.
CTMC marked this moment in the hospital’s history with a team photo, recognizing CTMC associates who have dedicated 25 years or more service to the hospital. Associates gathered on the roof with the sign on November 19 for the special photo opportunity.
“When Hays Memorial was built, it was exciting to have a brand new hospital,” said Karen Morris, CTMC Administrative Director of Ancillary Services and 27-year veteran of the hospital team. “It has been a privilege over the years to watch as CTMC continues to grow and extend the healing ministry of Christ.”
CTMC would like to thank the following employees for more than 25 years of dedicated service: Sharon Ash; Linda Cansler; Ed Carbajal; Bobbie Finn; Lynda Gordon; Sherry McCoy; Lisa Moore; Karen Morris; Guadalupe Rubio; Vera Serrano; Delia Villegas; Karl Olsen; Dora Capetillo; Marcia Grayson; Anna Kieler; Gary Knight; Jan Knott; Gary Nelson; Patrice Meany; Dolores Quintanilla; Lupe Sanchez; Madelyn Smith; Lexy Starr; Julie Veidt; Hope Weidman; Santos Flores; Cookie Lucio; Merlin Starr; Lucy Leal; Connie Ybarra; Patricia Becker, M.D.; Thomas Castoldi, D.O.; Albert Cobb Jr., M.D.; Rex Walton Cole, M.D.; Lance LeDoux, M.D.; Kenneth Long, M.D.; William Rogers, D.O.; Barton Romanek, M.D.; Edward Tomaneng, M.D.; and CTMC Volunteer Betty Champagne.
A facelift of the hospital’s main first floor corridor is underway. The changes include new porcelain tile flooring, wood columns, sconce lighting and paint.
