CTMC Puts the Wheels in Motion For a New School Year
SAN MARCOS, TX – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is helping students in San Marcos and surrounding communities start the new school year with success. CTMC employees stepped on board Thursday, August 12 for “Stuff the Bus”. The bright yellow school bus made a stop at CTMC to pick up more than 200 school supply items ready to be distributed to area students in need. This donation was an effort by the San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Broadway Bank to stuff the bus for the Greater San Marcos Youth Council.
“We try with our small chamber to participate in the community in a humble way, “ said Leonard Cantu, San Marcos Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president.
CTMC has also recognized the hard work of five local high school graduates with $500 and $1,000 scholarships, totaling $4,000. The scholarships were awarded based on financial need, community service and academic excellence. After close review by a CTMC committee, Christian Nelson, Joseph Oyervides, and Eliza Jordan were deemed most worthy of this year’s scholarships. Two laptop computers were presented to Fernando Alanis and Zuleyma Serrano.
“Each student worked tremendously hard to graduate in the top percentile of his or her class,” said Gary Jepson, CTMC President and CEO. “CTMC is honored to award them with funds to start their college career.”
The new school year is just days away and now is the time to get prepared for classroom activities for your child. From back to school physicals to speech therapy, the secret to success is to start early.
If your child carries a backpack, CTMC’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute would like to remind you that not all backpacks are created equal; and, regardless of the brand or style, it’s important to observe good backpack safety habits including how to pack, lift and wear a backpack.
