CTMC's 4th annual 'BabyFest' to feature new activities for dads
SAN MARCOS, TX – Central Texas Medical Center’s 4th annual BabyFest is a great resource for new and expecting mothers, but there will also be fun new activities for dads and children at this year’s event.

BabyFest will be held Sunday, July 28 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the CTMC Main Lobby and central corridors of the CTMC Women’s Center. Bring the whole family to catch up on the latest in products and services for moms, dads and babies.

”As part of CTMC’s growing emphasis on the CREATION Health principles, we are pleased to place a special focus on Activity and father/child Interpersonal Relationships at this year’s BabyFest event,” said Margie Lieck, CTMC Director of Women’s Services. “As always, we will we have so many great resources for mom, baby and family that are all available within Hays County.”

Dads are encouraged to dress in athletic clothes and take part in HH Fitness’ fitness challenge that will consist of Medicine balls, ropes, and body weight exercises. When they participate, they will be entered into a raffle courtesy of CTMC. Winners will be announced at the end of the event, and participants do not have to be present to win. Prizes will include a $100, $50 and $25 gift card.

“A lot of times expecting parents spend the majority of their time preparing for the new addition to the family and focusing on the baby’s needs. However, they forget to focus on their own health during this time,” said Heath Herrera, owner of HH Fitness. “Whatever you do as a parent, do not feel selfish for exercising and caring for your health. If you choose to not care for your health you are being selfish in the fact you are not preparing yourself to be the best for your family.”

Last July, nearly 400 new moms, moms-to-be and their families visited BabyFest. This year’s event will feature mini-tours of the Women’s Center and the new Honeysuckle Mommy Baby Boutique. There will also be healthy snacks, great door prizes and dozens of booths featuring products and services for new parents, moms-to-be and their babies. Additional highlights of BabyFest include networking opportunities with area parents and parents-to-be, baby boutiques, eco-friendly products, nutritional options for moms and babies, information on vaccinations and safety, representatives from obstetrics, pediatric physicians who practice at CTMC and more.

In recent years, the Women’s Center has been recognized for developing a breastfeeding program that is among the strongest in the region. Last year, the Texas Department of State Health Services recognized the hospital as Mother-Friendly Worksite for its breastfeeding-friendly practices for employees. CTMC was also recognized as a Texas Ten Step Program Facility for promoting breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns. Additionally, CTMC partnered with the City of San Marcos in 2012 to recognize National Breastfeeding Month locally, which is observed in August. CTMC also serves as a depot for the Austin area Mothers’ Milk Bank and has collected thousands of ounces of donor breast milk since 2011.
