Diabetes Dialogue Day
CTMC HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL DIABETES DIALOGUE DAY
SAN MARCOS, TX – More than 8% of the population in the United States has diabetes. Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) Institute for Healthy Living is again helping people manage diabetes during American Diabetes Month with its 3rd annual Diabetes Dialogue Day. The free, half-day event of health exhibits, screenings and educational lectures will take place Saturday, November 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom.
Attendees can receive free blood sugar screenings, body composition screenings, vision screenings, goodie bags, door prizes and a complimentary lunch. CTMC physicians who will speak about diabetes management and prevention include: Corey Carothers, D.D.S, dental health and diabetes; Joshua Hu, M.D., vision and diabetes; Faisal Syed, M.D.; Ellen Grimm, M.D.; B.J. Friedman, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.; and Lynn Villarreal, RPh. CTMC dieticians will also be presenting ‘Nutrition and Diabetes.’
”Diabetes can be controlled through education and regular screenings from medical professionals,” said Mario Torres, CTMC Diabetes Educator. “Diabetes Dialogue Day is a one-stop-shop opportunity for diabetics to receive important screenings and information that are key components to managing the disease.”
Exhibits and screenings at Diabetes Dialogue Day include: Novo Nordisk, diabetes products; Sanofi Aventis, patient education on diabetes products and lifestyle choices; Life Scan, One Touch glucose monitoring; CTMC Diabetes Education, free glucose checks; CTMC Sleep Center, effects of sleep on diabetics; Texas State University Best Food FITS, information on improvements in local restaurant menus for diabetics; CTMC Institute for Advance Wound Healing, Central Texas Eye Center, Pediatric Endocrinology of Central Texas, CCS Medical and Anytime Fitness, free body composition screening and benefits of exercise.
