HealthCheck blood draws kick off February 14
SAN MARCOS, TX – The 28th annual Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) CREATION HealthCheck Screening and Health Fair, Hays County’s oldest and largest health screening event, will be held Monday, April 14 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos.

Organizers of the event strongly encourage all attendees to participate in a pre-event community blood draw, the first of which takes place Feb. 14 from 7 to 10 a.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom. Please call CTMC’s CREATION Health Institute at (512) 753-3818 to reserve your spot.

Through this annual outreach effort, community members are able to receive more than $500 worth of valuable health screenings and services for a low $45 fee.

The Basic Screening Panel includes:
• Complete Metabolic Panel (screening for glucose, renal and liver disorders)
• Lipid Panel (cholesterol with HDL/LDL breakdown, triglycerides)
• Complete Blood Cell Count (white blood cell,, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets)

HealthCheck makes several additional screenings available for a low fee as well, including Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, or TSH ($15), Hemoglobin A1C ($15), Vitamin D ($30), and Hepatitis C ($30).

The Carotid Artery Disease (CAD) screening screens for carotid artery disease caused by plaque build-up in arteries associated with increased risk of stroke. The Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screening compares blood pressures in a person’s arms to the blood pressure in their legs, which can indicate blockages associated with a higher risk for heart disease and stroke. The CAD and PAD screenings cost $30, and qualifying criteria is required to receive those screenings.
