For the past decade, Scott Yarbrough has served on the Central Texas Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors. His family moved to San Marcos in 1966 from Houston, and he graduated from San Marcos High School. Today, he owns the Yarbrough Agency insurance company and is an active member of the San Marcos community.
Why did you decide to become part of the CTMC Foundation Board?
I felt really honored when I was asked to serve. The hospital is truly a vital part of our community and the opportunity to support that is important to me. Both of my sons were born at CTMC.
As a member of the CTMC Foundation Board, what accomplishments are you MOST proud of?
The things we’ve added, such as the ER renovation and Women’s Center expansion, have been critical and vital to being able to provide better service. I feel it’s important to keep the community here for care.
What other local organizations are you involved in?
I’m on the board of trustees for the San Marcos Baptist Academy and serve on the board of the San Marcos Youth Baseball and Softball Association. I’m a member of the Rotary Club of Greater San Marcos.
What keeps you active in the community?
My dad instilled in me the importance of giving back to our community through some kind of service. Our community gives a lot to us, and being involved in these organizations is one way I feel like I can give back.
How do you feel about our area’s growth?
Since coming to San Marcos in 1966, I’ve watched the size of the community and university grow tremendously. It’s really amazing to see what has transpired in that time. The growth has been good, in my opinion, and we’re going to continue to grow so I feel we should be willing to adapt to that. I think the goal should be to grow at a pace we can absorb and not just for the sake of growing.
What are your personal interests?
I’ve been married to my wife, Amy, for 22 years. We have two sons: Tanner, 16, and Cade, 12. We are members of Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels, and we are a very recreational family. We emphasize staying active through playing sports and spending time outdoors. I also officiate Division I women’s basketball.
