The Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Rehabilitation Institute offers physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Physical therapists

Physical therapists (PTs) can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility - in many cases without expensive surgery, and often reducing prescription medications and their side effects.

Physical therapists can teach patients how to manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

  • Some diagnoses we treat include:
  • Vestibular conditions
  • Orthopedic/sports rehab
  • Low back injuries
  • Knee/Hip surgery
  • Back and shoulder injuries
  • Stroke/head injuries

Occupational therapists

work with people who have disabilities, pain conditions or any dysfunction that affects their occupation. That could be a student, house wife, construction worker, lawyer, etc. OTs help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Occupational therapy encompasses cognitive and physical behaviors in the whole body, and helps patients function independently and pain-free.

Some examples include:

  • Hand therapy – broken wrists, nerve conditions, cut tendons , carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder and elbow injuries
  • Splinting
  • Stroke/head injuries
  • Pelvic floor disorders – incontinence, leakage, pelvic pain

Speech therapists

Speech therapists work in the areas of communication and swallowing across the life span.  Communication includes speech production and fluency, language, cognition, voice, resonance, and hearing. Swallowing includes all aspects of swallowing, including related feeding behaviors.

Some diagnoses seen are :

  • Dysphagia
  • Stroke
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Cognitive Impairments
  • Bell’s Palsy

To receive services at the CTMC Rehabilitation Institute, you need a physician’s referral. We like to work hand-in-hand with the patient and their physician so that it’s a triangle of care working toward the same goal of getting the patient better.
