It is with true sadness that we inform you of the death of CTMC Volunteer Auxiliary member Ralph Phipps, which occurred last night just before midnight at the Austin home of his daughter June. Our deepest condolences to Ralph’s wife Norma, his daughter June and her family, his daughter-in-law Carolyn Lawler and the numerous other family members and extended family members who had the privilege of being touched by our dear Ralph.
Ralph was a beloved fixture at CTMC for the past 10 years and only retired from his CTMC volunteer post in March of this year, following his 101st birthday. Among those who mourn and will miss him is his CTMC family.
Ralph became an auxiliary volunteer in 1980 and arrived at CTMC in 2001 from California. He clocked in more than 10,000 hours of service in 21 years and more than 4,700 since arriving to CTMC.
While at CTMC, Ralph worked at the main information desk and greeted each person who came through the doors at CTMC with a smile. He pushed wheelchairs and delivered menus, mail and flowers to patients.
On his 100th birthday, CTMC planted a tree in Ralph’s honor and many associates donated money as a gift to Ralph. In typical fashion, Ralph gave that money back to CTMC in the form of a gift to the patients he served. Two wooden benches now reside in the main lobby for patients to wait inside and out of extreme weather conditions thanks to Ralph’s endless generosity.
We are extremely grateful to Ralph and Norma and the entire Phipps family for their love, support and selfless service to the CTMC ministry and those we serve. We wish God’s comfort and continued blessings upon each of them.
Further details are forthcoming; however, we did want you to know that at Ralph’s request a formal funeral will not be held. In typical, selfless fashion, Ralph donated his body to science and his loved ones and friends will honor him with:
