SAN MARCOS, TX – From surprise Valentine cards, including one to the mother of Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) first Valentine baby of the day, to a barbershop quartet, patients and staff were shown heartfelt love at CTMC on Valentine’s Day.
Dozens of CTMC patients received a special surprise Monday morning as members of the CTMC Auxiliary went room to room delivering hand decorated Valentine’s Day cards. Tiffany Greenfield was one of those recipients. She received her first gift of love earlier that morning with the birth of her second son. The cards were created by members of the Wimberley High School Future Farmers of America organization.
Also on Monday, the staff at the Daily Bread Café at CTMC showed their love and gratitude to the CTMC Auxiliary with a thank you party. The café has a new look, faster services and more healthy choices thanks to a recent generous $45,000 donation from the CTMC Auxiliary.
“We wanted to show how much we appreciate the Auxiliary’s donation and their efforts to raise the money,” said Alicia Westfall, CTMC Food and Nutrition Manager. “We thought Valentine’s Day was perfect to express how we feel about our Auxiliary.”
Since Friday, True Vineyard Ministries sold chocolate covered strawberries, jewelry and other Valentine gift items in the CTMC main lobby with all proceeds benefiting True Vineyard. And during the holiday of love weekend, patients and staff were treated with performances by a barbershop quartet.
All month long, CTMC has expanded its commitment to heart care by providing heart awareness events for “American Heart Month”. This week, CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living will host a Healthy Heart Seminar, Thursday, Feb. 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom. Faisal Syed, M.D., a CTMC cardiologist with Austin Heart, will be the featured speaker. CTMC’s Dietary and Nutrition Team will host a demonstration on how to make your diet heart healthy and will provide heart healthy snacks during the event.
Also during “American Heart Month”, residents can have their cholesterol checked at one of two remaining CTMC HealthCheck pre-event blood draws on Feb. 18 and 25 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom. CTMC will celebrate the 25th year of HealthCheck, which is the largest health screening event in Hays County, on Thurs., April 28 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Embassy Suites in San Marcos. In honor of the anniversary, the already-low $35 fee for nearly $500 worth of valuable tests is being rolled back to $25.
