Central Texas Medical Center honors junior volunteers

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) honored its summer 2017 junior volunteers at an awards ceremony on August 9. During June and July, a group of 49 community high school students put in a total of 1,364 hours, working alongside CTMC auxiliary volunteers and staff members to assist with various tasks and get an introduction into the health care working world. The volunteers ranged in age from 13 to 18.

“This summer, we were delighted to work with such a group of extraordinary junior volunteers. We trust this was a learning experience for each student, and we are certainly grateful for the time they spent assisting 14 different CTMC departments during their time off from school,” said CTMC President and CEO Anthony Stahl.

According to CTMC Volunteer Coordinator Belinda Gardner, the experience is often life-changing for the students. “I know people personally who have gone into the medical field based on their summer here at this hospital,” she said.
