SAN MARCOS, TEXAS
– November is National Home Care Month, and Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Home Health is celebrating a monumental achievement.
For the 12-month period ending August 2014, CTMC Home Health had a readmission rate of 5 percent, ranking far below the state and national average for home health care. During the same time period, the national average readmission rate was 17.46 percent and the state’s was 17.14 percent. The data comes from Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP), a company that tracks health care analytics and benchmarking.
“CTMC Home Health is one of the oldest home health care providers in our area,” said CTMC Home Health Director Emilia Aldape. “Our dedicated team of health care professionals work hard on a daily basis to ensure quality care for our patients. This achievement is a reflection of their hard work. ”
Patient Mareese Boyd is a chronic pain sufferer who has been receiving physical therapy from CTMC Home Health for the past 1.5 years. She says the service has helped significantly reduce her pain levels and increase her mobility.
“Life is magical,” Boyd said. “God sends many messengers to you from unknown places, and little did I know that there would be a nurse and a physical therapist that would bring me from having to ride in a power wheelchair to walking down the halls.”
Boyd also notes the friendship she has found in her CTMC Home Health care team.
“Being 81 years old and finding someone who is interested in you is like having a hand to hold,” Boyd said. “Home Health is a hand to hold through difficult times in your life, and they help you through it.”
CTMC Home Health opened in 1991 and is one of the oldest in the area. Their services include skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and social work. CTMC Home Health serves Hays, Comal, Caldwell and Guadalupe counties and accepts Medicare, Managed Medicare, Managed Medicaid and private insurances.
