CTMC introduces robotic-assisted weight loss surgery
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is helping clinically and morbidly obese patients find a new beginning with minimally invasive, robotic-assisted weight loss surgery.

Built upon CTMC’s success as a leader in robotic procedures between San Antonio and Austin, the Weight Loss Center at Live Oak Health Partners offers multiple weight loss surgeries, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve and Lap Band using the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgical system.

The procedures are performed by Dr. Erik Anderson, a Live Oak physician and the region’s leading da Vinci surgeon.

“Weight loss surgery helps patients prevent or reverse the serious diseases and conditions associated with obesity, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, elevated cholesterol, gastro-esophageal reflux disease and sleep apnea,” Anderson said. “We are also committed to helping our patients build and maintain healthy habits into their daily routines for overall improved wellness.”

Before and after surgery, each patient is guided by CTMC’s dedicated team of specialists, including primary care physicians, registered dietitians, clinical counselors, wellness coaches and more. In addition, the hospital offers a wealth of educational resources through its CREATION Health Institute, including workshops, healthy cooking classes, healthy activities hosted on campus, support groups and more.
The benefits to weight loss surgery include:

Following surgery, most patients lose weight rapidly for 18 to 24 months. Approximately 75 percent of these patients will lose and keep off 50 to 80 percent of excess weight.

Those considering weight loss surgery are encouraged to attend an upcoming weight loss seminar. To learn more, contact the Weight Loss Center at Live Oak Health Partners by calling (512) 405-0077 or visiting
