CTMC NICU reunion will be the focus of 5th annual BabyFest
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is inviting all of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) graduates and their families back for a special reunion at its 5th annual BabyFest event, which will be held Sunday, July 27 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the CTMC Main Lobby and central corridors of the CTMC Women’s Center.

Since opening in 2009, more than 450 babies have graduated from the CTMC NICU. Those who return for the reunion event at BabyFest will be treated to a private mixer, family portraits and gifts for the 0-to-5-year-olds.

Whether you’re a new mom, expecting or simply considering pregnancy this year, BabyFest is a great way to become familiar with the latest in products and services for moms and babies.

”Within Hays County we have so many great resources for mom, baby and family,” said Margie Lieck, CTMC Director of Women’s Services. “Moms and moms-to-be are already incredibly busy, so it is important that we bring all of these resources and organizations together for a fun, one-stop shop-ortunity and so much more.”

BabyFest will also feature mini-tours of the Women’s Center and CTMC’s Honeysuckle Mommy Baby Boutique as well as healthy snacks, fun activities for dads and children, great door prizes and dozens of booths featuring products and services for new parents, moms-to-be and their babies.

Additional highlights of BabyFest include networking opportunities with area new moms and moms-to-be, baby boutiques, eco-friendly products, nutritional options for moms and babies, information on vaccinations and safety, representatives from obstetrics, pediatric physicians who practice at CTMC and more.

BabyFest was first launched in 2010 after the completion of a $35 million expansion, which consisted of a 64,000-square-foot facility that houses the CTMC Women’s Center. The Women’s Center features all private rooms, a special laboring-tub for mothers who choose to use it, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and two on-site cesarean section suites.

In recent years, the Women’s Center has been recognized for developing a breastfeeding program that is among the strongest in the region. The Texas Department of State Health Services recognized the hospital as Mother-Friendly Worksite for its breastfeeding-friendly practices for employees. CTMC was also recognized as a Texas Ten Step Program Facility for promoting breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns. Additionally, CTMC partnered with the City of San Marcos in 2012 to recognize National Breastfeeding Month locally, which is observed in August. CTMC also serves as a depot for the Austin area Mothers’ Milk Bank and has collected thousands of ounces of donor breast milk since 2011.
