CTMC's 18th Annual Gala Raises Funds For New Chest Pain Center
SAN MARCOS, TX – There was a heartfelt show of support for the new Chest Pain Center currently in development at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) as 451 people gathered at Embassy Suites, San Marcos this past Sunday for the 18th annual Stars of Texas Gala. The inspirational night featured gourmet dining, a silent auction and entertainment by Grammy award winning county music hit maker Steve Wariner. KVUE’s Melissa Gale emceed the event which also honored CTMC’s Emergency Department physicians while raising funds for the new Chest Pain Center.
“We are extremely blessed to have such wonderful support in our community,” said Clay DeStefano, Executive Director, CTMC Foundation. “From our sponsors, to our numerous auction donors to those who attended and bid so generously on our items and the numerous volunteers who work so hard to help us put this event on each year, we are truly grateful to all who played a role in supporting this event.”
The 2010 Gala raised $145,000 to benefit the Chest Pain Center, which is a partnership between our emergency department, cardiologists and first responders. The new service enhancement, which is slated to begin operation in early 2011, puts in place specialized protocols and services for all patients arriving in the ER suffering from chest pain or other potential heart attack symptoms to help ensure they receive immediate intervention and assessment.
Earlier this year, the CTMC Foundation established a new fundraising model, the Women’s Council, which empowers women to give back to Hays County by strengthening and investing in programs and services that benefit women and children. To date, more than 50 area women have joined the Council. A tiered dues structure provides council members with a non-traditional fundraising method.
“It’s an extremely challenging time for fundraising right now,” adds DeStefano. “The unusual successes we are experiencing with our efforts -- in spite of the economic climate -- are a true testament to the people of San Marcos. This is clearly a community that cares.”
The CTMC Foundation was established in 1982. The Foundation is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 organization whose purpose is to help raise philanthropic funds for improving programs and services at Central Texas Medical Center. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $5.8 million for advanced medical equipment, building projects, renovations and service enhancement.
