CTMC's annual HealthCheck registration, pre-event blood draws underway
SAN MARCOS, TX – The 27th annual CTMC HealthCheck Screening and Health Fair, Hays County’s oldest and largest health screening event, will be held Thursday, April 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos. The community is encouraged to take advantage of the more than $500 worth of valuable health screenings and services provided for a low $45 fee.

“HealthCheck is such an important component of many area residents’ health care maintenance each year,” said Clay DeStefano, Administrative Director of PR & Marketing. “We’re delighted to be able to keep offering the basic blood panel and growing the free screenings and clinical services available the day of the event.”

The basic HealthCheck screening panel includes:
• Complete Metabolic Panel (screening for glucose, renal and liver disorders)
• Lipid Panel (cholesterol with HDL/LDL breakdown, triglycerides)
• Complete Blood Cell Count (white blood cell,, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets)

Several additional tests are available for a low fee as well, including Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, or TSH ($15), Hemoglobin A1C ($15), Vitamin D ($30), and a Carotid Artery Screening ($30). Lastly, we’ve added the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) screening, which may be obtained for $30. In August 2012, the Centers for Disease Control updated their screening recommendations for HCV. All individuals born between 1945 and 1965 should receive the screening. Although the infection is often asymptomatic, chronic infection can lead to scarring of the liver or cirrhosis and in some cases to Hepatocellular carcinoma, a rare and fatal cancer.

This year HealthCheck is again partnering with Texas State University’s CAMCO, the City of San Marcos Healthy City Task Force, the San Macros Chamber of Commerce and the San Marcos Daily Record to provide more than 70 wellness, fitness and nutrition exhibitors. Keep checking as the exhibitor list develops.

Preregistration for the event is under way now through April 5. To pre-register, call CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living at (512) 753-3818 or visit our Community Resource Center in the CTMC Main Lobby. Business hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For added convenience, several pre-event blood draws are already taking place at CTMC’s main campus and at additional locations throughout Hays and Caldwell counties. All blood draws will take place from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and participants are required to fast for at least eight hours before having their blood drawn.
