CTMC's CREATION Health Garden expands giving to local food bank
SAN MARCOS, TX – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) recently donated 18 pounds of fresh, organically grown vegetables to the Hays County Food Bank that were grown in the hospital’s CREATION Health Garden. The garden was planted in March with the intention of providing ongoing support to the Food Bank.

According to Hays County Food Bank Community Relations Coordinator Jane Moore, the planting of the CREATION Health Garden coincided with the Food Bank’s Fresh Quest initiative, which is a campaign to actively recruit more sources of fresh produce.

“Not only is fresh food more healthy, but some of the clients we serve have health conditions that dictate that they eat as much fresh food as they can,” Moore said. “Some days we don’t have enough fresh fruits and vegetables to go around, so CTMC deciding to provide us with fresh squash, tomatoes and other healthy vegetables couldn’t have happened at a better time.”

The garden is named after the faith-based health and wellness lifestyle that was developed by Adventist Health System (AHS), CTMC’s parent company. The CREATION Health principles are based on biblical ideas that promote a balanced approach to achieving optimal health. The proven results of this lifestyle on wellness and longevity are extraordinary, and AHS has embraced the CREATION Health guidelines for its employee and community wellness initiatives.

Earlier this year, CTMC donated $2,000 to the Hays County Food Bank that was used to purchase a new warehouse scale. In addition, teams of CTMC associates are now working at the food bank on a weekly basis to help ensure enough volunteer support to meet their growing demands.
