CTMC's growing 'Think Pink' events will raise funds, awareness for breast cancer
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Thanks to the addition of more partners in its efforts to raise awareness and funding for the local fight against breast cancer, Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) annual ‘pink’ activities have grown beyond the month of October. This year, activities will stretch from mid-September through early November.

In addition to the annual Mayors’ proclamation, the CTMC lantern will once again glow pink all month long as a beacon of hope for those suffering from breast cancer and their loved ones. In addition, several more activities will help raise funds for emergency aid to cancer patients in need who qualify for the assistance.

Since CTMC began observing and fundraising locally for breast cancer in 2008, the hospital has helped raise more than $80,000. ‘Pink Funding’ has helped provide transportation to patients for doctors’ appointments, pay rent and utility bills and make insurance payments.

CTMC and its 2014 Pink partners are pleased to bring the following breast cancer related events to our area:

CTMC Extended Mammogram hours
Throughout the month of October, CTMC will offer extended hours for mammograms on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. by appointment. To schedule a mammogram at CTMC, call (512) 753-3661.

100 FREE mammograms
Once again, the hospital will partner with Community Action to offer up 100 free mammograms to area women who have no means to pay for one. For more information about the mammograms, please call Community Action at (512) 392-1161, extension 305, or e-mail Lydia Perez at

Women’s Center for Breast Health Grand Opening

The evening kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on the patio next to the CTMC Main Entrance. Dr. Ruth Welborn, Dean of College of Health Professions at Texas State, will be the guest speaker.

Stars of Texas Gala

This year’s Stars of Texas Gala will support the new CTMC Women’s Center for Breast Health. The event will start at 5 p.m. and feature gourmet dining, a unique silent auction and a performance from Country Star Lorrie Morgan. A special tribute will be paid to the CTMC Volunteer Auxiliary. Texas State CAMCO’s Bra Night/Fashion Show

Several Texas State University student organizations will take part in a special bra-decorating contest to help raise awareness for breast cancer. At the fashion show, the decorated cancer bras will be modeled tastefully with jeans. The show will kick off with a reception at 6:00 p.m. that includes free food. Fourth Annual Bras for The Cause

The Women’s Council of Hill Country Realtors will host this event that will include a live bra auction and runway show modeled by local area firefighters. The mistress of ceremonies will be Tiffany Mayne, Americana morning show personality for KNBT 92.1 FM. The event will run from 6 to 10 p.m.
