CTMC’s EXPANDED HEALTHCHECK REGISTRATION,
PRE-EVENT BLOOD DRAWS UNDERWAY
SAN MARCOS, TX – For more than a quarter-century now, Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has made a difference in the health of thousands of Hays County residents through its annual HealthCheck Community Health Screening and Fair. CTMC will celebrate the 26th year of HealthCheck, with an even larger set of free and low-cost clinical screenings and more exhibitors focusing on fitness and wellness on Thurs., April 26 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (new time) at Embassy Suites in San Marcos.
This year, HealthCheck, which is the oldest and largest health screening event in Hays County, is again partnering with Texas State University’s CAMCO, to bring an expanded number of cancer-focused screenings and exhibitors. In addition, new partnerships with the City of San Marcos Healthy City Task Force, the San Macros Chamber of Commerce and the San Marcos Daily Record will expand the event to include a “second-half of the expo hall” with wellness, fitness and nutrition exhibitors.
“HealthCheck is such an important component of many area resident’s healthcare maintenance each year,” said Clay DeStefano, Administrative Director of PR & Marketing. “We’re delighted to be able to keep growing the free screenings and clinical services available the day of the event,” he added.
A low $45 fee covers the basic HealthCheck screening panel (over $500 worth of testing) and several additional tests are available for a low fee as well, including Thyroid Stimulating Hormone ($15), Hemoglobin A1C ($15), Vitamin D ($30), Carotid Artery Screening ($30) and a new Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) ($30) screening.
Last year, more than 1,900 area residents registered for screenings and more than 1,600 attended the event. Pre-registration is recommended and already underway. For an added convenience, several pre-event blood draws will take place at CTMC and at the following locations in nearby communities. (All blood draws take place from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and require at least eight hours of fasting prior to blood being drawn.)

The present facility was opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983. The CTMC staff of more than 700 employees works with more than 220 active and consulting physicians to provide quality services to patients and their families. In addition, over 200 community members and interns from area educational institutions volunteer their services to the hospital. In 2010 CTMC was named The Best Hospital in Hays County and received the San Marcos Chamber’s Green Business Award for its innovative, green efforts.
CTMC is a member of the Adventist Health System (AHS), a not-for-profit healthcare organization that emphasizes Christ at the center of care.
