Put Some Spring in Your Step to Improve Your Health

The nicer weather we’ve been experiencing the last few weeks
has made it easier to get outside and get active. Did you know that walking is one
of the most beneficial activities you can do? That’s right! Simply getting out and
going for a walk has a ton of health benefits.
Regular brisk walking can help you:
Maintain a healthy weight
Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
Improve your mood
Improve your balance and coordination
Your walking technique is very important to ensuring you’re
getting the most you can out of the activity. Things like good posture and
purposeful movement make a big difference. Try to remember the following on
your next walk:
Your head is up. You’re looking forward, not at the ground.
Your neck, shoulders and back are relaxed, not stiffly upright.
You’re swinging your arms freely with a slight bend in your elbows. For a little added arm toning, you can carry light dumbbells.
Your stomach muscles are slightly tightened and your back is straight, not arched forward or backward.
You’re walking smoothly, rolling your foot from heel to toe.
