CTMC provides innovative treatment for joint pain

As women age, injury and everyday wear and tear can lead to problems with joints in the shoulder, hip and particularly the knee. Dr. Amanda Ivy, orthopaedic specialist, now provides Single Portal Arthroscopy (SPA) for her patients. She is one of only four surgeons in Texas who has advanced to this modern approach.
SPA is a new, minimally-invasive arthroscopic technique used to diagnose and treat certain joint problems. Previous arthroscopies used three entry points for surgical instruments, while Dr. Ivy’s new procedure uses a single entry site with minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques to view, diagnose and treat problems. Patients will have less swelling and only one scar.
Dr. Ivy noted, “I’m providing an option, when applicable, for my patients to have less pain, fewer scars and a faster recovery. Many knee injuries requiring surgery can be treated with this minimally invasive technique and some patients will not even require pain medications after surgery. Anything we can do to reduce trauma to the body and its tissues is intuitively better.”
