SAN MARCOS, TEXAS
– Terri Gruca, a journalist at KVUE Austin, will emcee the 22nd annual Stars of Texas Gala, a fundraising event for Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC).
The gala will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Conference Center in San Marcos, and proceeds will benefit CTMC’s new Women’s Center for Breast Health. As KVUE’s “Working for a Cure” feature reporter, Gruca broadcasts inspirational breast cancer stories on a monthly basis.
Each year, the Stars of Texas Gala supports service and technology expansions that keep CTMC on the forefront of medical technology. CTMC’s Women’s Center for Breast Health, which will be the first of its kind between Austin and San Antonio, will open at the hospital in October in conjunction with the annual “Think Pink” activities. This unique diagnostic center is a collaborative effort designed with the special needs of breast cancer patients in mind. It combines diagnostic imaging, support, surgical services and reconstruction in one convenient location.
“We want to provide a calming and comfortable atmosphere for women to undergo testing and carry them through any necessary steps that follow,” said Margie Lieck, CTMC’s Director of Women’s Services.
In addition, country music star Lorrie Morgan will provide entertainment at the event. Morgan, the daughter of the late Country Music Singer George Morgan, made history when she was the youngest person ever to become a lifetime member of the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 24. The songstress has sold more than 6 million records that include 14 top 10 hits.
This year’s event will honor the CTMC Volunteer Auxiliary for their years of faithful service to the hospital’s health ministry. The volunteers served 33,778 hours in 2013 and sponsored six fundraisers to raise money for CTMC. The Auxiliary is featured as the largest donor on the CTMC Donor Recognition Wall with a total of $616,000 given since 1991.
The Stars of Texas Gala will once again feature gourmet dining, a truly unique silent auction and an opportunity to mix and mingle with nearly 500 of San Marcos’ finest.
Tickets to the Gala cost $200 and may be purchased by calling 512-753-3687. For information about becoming a sponsor for the event, please visit ctmc.org
