Specialty Physicians of Central Texas to Host Saturday Sports Injury Clinics
SAN MARCOS, TX – Injuries are often part of any sport. When an injury occurs, it’s important to seek proper medical attention. Specialty Physicians of Central Texas (SPOCT) is hosting Saturday Sports Injury Clinics through the fall football season from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at 1340 Wonder World Drive, Building 4, Suite 4301 in San Marcos. The clinics are open to junior high, high school, college and recreational league athletes who have sustained an injury during a recent competition. Injury clinic physician coverage being provided by Sport Medicine trained physicians, Stuart Shapiro, D.O. and Amanda Ivy, M.D.
”Timely assessment and treatment of an athletic injury can be critical to that athlete’s safe return to sport,” said Stuart Shapiro, D.O., Orthopedic Physician. “Our goal is to provide the highest quality of injury screening in order to diagnose and treat athletes.”
Athletes will be seen by orthopedic physicians with sports medicine training. The physicians and their staff will provide medical assessment to evaluate the athlete’s injury and make sure the injury is properly treated. The most common injuries seen include bruises, ankle sprains, and knee/shoulder injuries. Concussions can not be evaluated at the Saturday Sports Injury Clinics and releases will not be given during the clinic to play after concussion injuries. Players who may have sustained a concussion are encouraged to go to the nearest emergency room.
