SAN MARCOS, TX – Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) 20th annual Stars of Texas Gala, the premiere black-tie event in Hays County, will take place Oct. 7 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Conference Center in San Marcos. This year’s happening will honor local entrepreneur, developer and philanthropist Terry P. Gilmore, whose vision 20 years ago to embark on a new fundraiser for CTMC is still successfully supporting service and technology expansions that keep the hospital on the leading edge.
This year, proceeds from the Stars of Texas Gala will benefit CTMC’s new da Vinci robotic surgical services. The $2 million investment is the first of its kind in Hays County and provides a minimally invasive approach to surgery that goes beyond the limits of the human hand.
“Since first implemented in late May, the hospital has performed 26 da Vinci procedures, and patients have experienced shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times and little scarring,” said CTMC President/CEO Sam Huenergardt. “Robotic surgery is the right choice for our region.”
The first several da Vinci-assisted surgeries performed at CTMC were OB/GYN procedures, but da Vinci services have expanded to include urology and general surgical procedures.
Country performer Neal McCoy will provide entertainment at the event. McCoy has sold more than 6 million albums with five no. 1 hits and is the entertainer of choice for many country stars. The Stars of Texas Gala will once again feature gourmet dining, a truly unique silent auction and an opportunity to mix and mingle with nearly 500 of San Marcos’ finest. In recent years, the Stars of Texas Gala has benefitted CTMC’s expanding cardiac services, a new chest pain center, an expansion of the Women’s Center and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Tickets to the Gala cost $200 and may be purchased by calling 512-753-3687. To become a sponsor or donate an auction item, visit ctmc.org, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
